Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky International Airport (Elizovo) (managed by Airports of Regions MC) held exercises of the emergency rescue team. The drill was conducted as part of the preparations for the autumn and winter season at a special SPASOP training area.
As the legend goes, after landing at the Elizovo airfield, the aircraft suffered a right landing gear fracture, damage to the right wing’s surface, spillage and ignition of jet , and smoke in the cabin. Upon alarm, the airport rescue team arrived at the scene of rescue operations, and a field medical station was deployed.
The emergency rescue team included the firefighting and rescue service, medical staff of the airport health post, passenger and cargo transportation organizations, ground handling and airfield service. If necessary, the Emergency Situations Ministry (EMERCOM), police and other authorities are also involved.
After fire suppression, the rescue team organized evacuation of the crew and passengers (crash test dummies and airport staff playing this role) as well as removal of the aircraft from the airfield. In the course of the drill, the rescue team showed excellent performance by gathering in a designated area when the alarm was sounded, extinguishing the fire, skimming spilled aviation fuel, deploying the field medical station, evacuating passengers and the crew, demonstrating a high level of interaction between the duty shift teams of various airport services.
