During the calendar winter of 2020-2021, the Airport’s services removed more than 10 thousand cubic meters of snow from the territory of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky International Airport (operated by Airports of Regions MC). The airport’s employees made more than 500 snow removal trips to/from the apron and the square, by specialised vehicles.
The snowiest months were December and February, when the region was hit by cyclones. In order to maintain flight safety, the runway, taxiways and aircraft parking areas were also treated with de-icing chemicals, apart from snow removal therefrom. Some 86 tonnes of liquid chemicals were used for this purpose.
Taking into account the climatic conditions in Kamchatka Territory during the calendar spring, the airfield service is still ready to operate in the winter mode. Elizovo Airport has about 20 vehicles for snow removal and maintenance of the runway, apron and aircraft parking places. At the first signs of snowfall, special vehicles switch to the “patrolling” mode, and when the precipitation gets heavier, they switch to the uninterrupted operation mode.
